Elfin Thyme (Thymus serpyllum 'Elfin')
Thyme or Thymus is an herb with many varieties that stay small – from the soil-skimming Elfin Thyme (Thymus minor) to the fuzzy Woolly Thyme (Thymus pseudolanuginosus). for ground covers, we recommend these two or Mother Thyme, Pink Thyme or Red Thyme. Select the growth habit, leaf color and flower color you like best. They are all edible. Some are classified as a ground cover, while others are considered shubby perennials (see the 1-3 foot plants listing). Most varieties of thyme have small, heavily scented leaves and have low water needs. All are attractive to Bees. Full sun, part sun. or light shade in almost any soil.
Elfin thyme forms a 1" high tight mat of gray/green foliage and is a good lawn replacement. Has small lavender pink flowers in summer and is good for rock garden crevices, dry slopes, container plantings, stepping stones fill-ins, or other areas with GOOD DRAINAGE. If you have clay soil, be sure to plant on a slope and you'll have great drainage! Loves full sun most of all and low water is necessary as this plant is very drought tolerant once established. Do not over water or it will NOT grow well. Deer and rabbit resistant
Please remember that not all sizes are available at any given time.
Free delivery in Orange County only. We do not ship plants outside Southern California due to weather, shipping service handling, and cost considerations.
