Tricolor Sage (Salvia officinalis 'Tricolor', Common Sage, Purple Sage, Kitchen Sage)
Tricolor Sage (Salvia officinalis 'Tricolor')
This is a variegated form of culinary sage which brings a good contrast to the usual green foliage in your garden. It does well in rock gardens and does prefer good drainage, so plant on a slope or in a container if you have clay or heavy soil. Watering can be reduced once the plant is well-established. Can really improve the color palette in a xeriscape theme garden, which can sometimes look too gray.
A lovely perennial for very small garden spaces or balcony pot/planter gardens. Full Sun, medium water (drought tolerant once established), tolerates heat, deer resistant, and edible. Grows 18 inches tall, and up to 2 feet wide. This is a Fire-wise plant and is good if you are planning firescape near your home. This herb is very ornamental and fragrant, with colorful grayish green leaves mixed with white, pink and purple tones. Lavender blue flowers in summer. Attracts bees and butterflies. Nice for flower gardens, herb gardens, or containers.
