They are all edible. Most varieties of thyme have small, heavily scented leaves and have low water needs. All are attractive to Bees. Full sun, part sun. or light shade in almost any soil.
Woolly thyme forms a 1" by 12", dense mat of tiny, extremely fuzzy leaves without much fragrance and small pink flowers in summer. It is happy in any full sun, dry, well-drained spot such as patios, walkways, rock gardens, walls, slopes, or pond borders. It will rot in moist soils, so plant on slopes, or hillsides or in containers if you have clay soil. Cut back when needed to maintain appearance.
